Here’s a few more pictures of the iconic corner window @fortnums Fortnum & Mason 181, Piccadilly, London. My smoke-fired vessel was chosen to complement the display created by @thecreativedimension The Creative Dimention Trust give young folk in London the chance to take part in high quality creative craft workshops and @lucyjnewman worked with students over the summer to create the beautiful Japanese Ikebana style embroidered flowers. The Japanese theme was also expressed through Suminagashi marbled silk panels, workshops lead by @rocworxdesigns and Japanese solid hard wood beech stools lead by @newschooloffurniture. The display is on for another week so do have a look if you’re in London. It’s so encouraging to see young folk having opportunities to work with inspirational highly skilled makers. I’m thrilled to have one of my smoke-fired vessels included in this fantastic display in London at Fortnum & Mason’s corner window! Posted @withregram • @thecreativedimension This year’s TCDT’s collaboration with @fortnums for their corner window display, curated by @simon_costin and themed around Japanese art and culture, showcases three distinct elements developed in workshops during the summer holidays, from our Marbling Workshop, Furniture Making Workshop, and the Embroidery Workshop.

We are incredibly grateful to all our students for joining us in our ongoing journey to bring hand based skills to different communities and spaces, as well as for our amazing tutors bringing their craft and expertise to our project. @lucyjnewman @newschooloffurniture @rocworxdesigns

The Creative Dimension Trust is always looking for new funding to support and expand its programmes, ensuring more young people can benefit from these enriching experiences.

I wanted to show some images of the clay bead maki

I wanted to show some images of the clay bead making workshop that I lead @campleline last week. We were invited to make terracotta beads by Chiara Camoni, who has a solo show at Cample Line ‘Murmur, buzz hiss and rub’ opening on 5.10 - 15.12.24. Our beads will form part of one of her monumental ‘sister’ sculptures in the exhibition. I worked with members of the local community to shape clay into sculptural bead forms, I then fired them and along side @hetallateh we assembled them into strings, the resulting forms seemed to take on a life of their own with echos of ancient creatures snaking across the table! This autumn we will host an exhibition of work by Italian artist Chiara Camoni who has invited us to make a new string of beads to be included in the exhibition as part of one of her monumental 'Sister' sculptures.⁠

We would love for you to join Ruth and members of our team to help prepare clay beads, which will be included alongside strings of terracotta beads made in Chiara’s studio with members of her own local community in northern Tuscany in Italy.⁠

Ruth Elizabeth Jones’ own affinity with clay has been lifelong. After studying in the Midlands in the 1980s, she established studios firstly in Derby and then in rural Southwest Scotland where she continues to live and work.⁠
⁠
Ruth’s ceramic practice centres on the vessel form. She builds clay vessels using coil-building techniques that date back to matriarchal Neolithic pottery cultures, and her work makes ongoing reference to the female ceramic record.⁠
