‘Holding - Offering’ smoke-fired, white clay, by pairing pieces or presenting them in groups the space around them becomes equally important and the relationship they have with each other becomes the focus. With this piece the larger vessel is holding or containing something while the open form is in an offering, open position. The final stage of making for my Black Floating Jars is a smoke firing, where wood shavings burn down slowly over night in a smoking bin creating unique surfaces emphasising the mark making in the clay, here you can see a finished vessel emerging from the ash, it’s always a moment of great anticipation 🌀and then some fantastic studio shots showing the texture.
